Bryan Mbeumo scored a brace as Manchester United came from behind to beat Atletico Madrid 2-1 in Stockholm during their summer friendly series.
The Red Devils had faced Atletico Madrid twice before, winning one and losing one. This match was considered the most challenging so far this summer. Manager Michael Carrick named a strong side for the Strawberry Arena encounter, with Amad Diallo replacing Joshua Zirkzee up top and Mason Mount and Andrey Santos continuing to impress in midfield.
The first half started poorly for United as Arnau Ortiz inadvertently scored an own goal in the fifth minute, leaving Tom Heaton and Harry Maguire bewildered. Despite numerous chances, United could not equalize until early in the second period when Lacey was fouled in the box, and Mbeumo converted from the spot to level the score.
United regained the lead with 15 minutes remaining as Jack Fletcher provided a perfect cross for Mbeumo, who scored his second goal of the match. JJ Gabriel made his senior debut shortly after, replacing Mbeumo.
Atletico Madrid had one last chance but were denied by both posts, ending the game with a narrow defeat.
The victory marks another strong performance in preparation for the upcoming Premier League season, where United will face Hull City soon.
